hello

i am looking for opinions on products that will give me a picture into the usage of bandwidth by users/workstations and the application that is using it.  note that i'm not looking for just which protocol (CIFS or SMTP) but that i'd like the solution to have the smarts to tell which appliation is in use.  i'd apply this solution to both my wan and internet connectivity.  of course, i'd want to defend against p2p and malware, from a bandwidth usage perspective.  and bandwidth shaping is another nice to have.  i'm thinking about tools like packeteer and bluecoat but have no experience with them.  money is an issue, so a good inexpensive solution is better than a great expensive solution.
