The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

how do i configure  intervlan routing on an existing topology ?

Asked by oelolemy in Network Management, Networking Protocols

good day
KIndly refer to my attached network topology of the site
the network topology consists of 3 sites connected to each other via serial micorwave links
the tasluja site is responsible for routing the trafiic between the other 2 sites ( bas and head office)
the tas and baz sites, each consists of 9 or more access catalyst 3550 switches. each connected to a core 4507r switch which is then connected to a 2600 cisco router which is then responsible for carrying traffic to the other site using the micro wave links, all switches including the core has been assigned with dynamic ips using the DHCP server, therefore all VLANS configured on the switces are native VLAN1
- all switches including the core has been configured withethe default settings
- i have been assigned to finetune the network, first i had to decide how to manage or address VLANS since all departments access or share the same resources, i have been told that there is a near by project to handover ip telephony to the site later, therefor i should put a VLAN for voice into assumption!
- However, the ip address schemes of the site is as follows
for TAS 10.232.0.x--- static ips assigned for servers and default gateway (router)
10.232.1-2.x -->> this hould be dynamic ips assigned by the DHCP to the hosts and switches

for BAZ -- >> 10.232.100.x--static ips assigned for servers and default gateway (router)
10.232.101,102.x >> this hould be dynamic ips assigned by the DHCP to the hosts and switches

for head office-- >> 10.232.200.x ->>static ips assigned for servers and default gateway (router)
10.232.201,202.x -->>this hould be dynamic ips assigned by the DHCP to the hosts and switches

the routersstatic ips are
TAS router-->>10.232.0.1
BAZ router -->>10.232.100.1
HO router -->>10.232.200.1

i have been given a range of 10.232.3.x for TAS, 10.232.103.x for BAZ and 10.232.203.x forHO to assign static ips to tehe switches for management  instead of dynamically being assigned from DHCP

my question is as follows:
- i need a case scenario or case study with configuration examples, lets say if we have the following
2 catalyst access switches --> core switch-->> router -------- seria  link ---- router<<--core switch <<--2 access catalyst switch

- want the core switch to handle the inter vlan routing
Vlan 1 ( native) for managment
Vlan2 for Data
Vlan 3 for Voice
- How should i configure this regardless of the ip address assigned?
- Kindly give acase scenario with config example or kindly apply configuratuion scenario on the attched topology
- I know its a little bit complex but i need your help and experties especially that the deadiline for this task should be only be the end of this week!
 - i also need some finetuning like :
- where to apply port security, VTP pruning, STP,RSTP and all of this stuff on switches giving some configuration examples
_ also What configurations should be made on the router, core switches and the access switches to manage routing of VLANS bearing in mind that all of them are catalyst and multilayer switches?
waiting for reply
