You can access the DRAC through the onboard NIC when NIC sharing is enabled.
You may want to make sure that the web server and racadm access is enabled.
They can both be turned off.

Browse All TopicsHello all,
I'm having some issues connecting to the Dell RAC on my 2950. During POST I can hit CTRL-E to enter the configuration, I gave it an IP and subnet. I can ping the address I gave it but racadm fails, as well as browsing to the address from IE or firefox.
This may seem like a dumb question, but on the back of the server there is a cover over where the dedicated DRAC is supposed to go, but I read that the RAC will still function over the 2 embedded NICS. Is this true? or does the configuration exist solely for the add in card? and if so how am I able to ping it?
Any help at all would be greatly appreciated.

Try the racadm command below. The racadm exe is located under the folder where dell openmanage is installed. i.e. "C:\Program Files\Dell\SysMgt\rac5"
To enable your web server using Secure Shell (SSH), telnet or local RACADM, type the following command from a command prompt on a management station:
racadm config -g cfgRacTuning -o cfgRacTuneWebServerEnable 1

I believe your issue is that you do not have a DRAC. The 2950 does not come with a DRAC embeded into NIC 2, where you are seeing the wrench symbol. If you did have a DRAC it would have been a DRAC 5 and it would be right where the cover is.
You do have a RAC (remote access controller) but this does not give you the console interface of a regular DRAC.
I agee with charlestasse. This link from dell supports his statement.

Look at page 2 under the remote management section.
Ok so I definitely do not have a DRAC, however will the RAC that I do have allow me to remote reboot the machine if it hardlocks? or does the IPMI not allow for that?
I tried issuing the racadm config -g cfgRacTuning -o cfgRacTuneWebServerEnable 1 command and it failed with an error stating that it had no local configuration file.
Read the instructions listed here for the RAC

Let me see if I can answer your question here. I know the DRAC card is a completely seperate module from the two built in NIC cards. Normally if you get a server without DRAC you will have that little cover on the DRAC port (the little wrench).
In the past I know that if you didnt purchase DRAC they didnt install the card. The newer servers may all come with them but Dell might have some kind of software or other unlock method to enable all the functions of the DRAC. I would guess this may be why you can ping it but not get into the website or gui.
I would suggest trying the service tag at dells website to see if it was purchased with DRAC. If it wasnt and you need to enable it try contacting dell they might have a DRAC enable tool.
