The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

login to windows server 2003 with roaming profiles

i have a new setup with a new dual intel quad server with 4GB ram and 10 new quad core workstations with 4GB ram and a WD Velociraptor 10k rpm drive. everything should be fast, but the workstations are logging in slowly and the main program is running slow.

the old server was a single intel quad core server with 2GB that was 10 years old
and the workstations were single celeron core with 512MB ram.

the differences other than hardware was that the old server was setup in raid 5 with 3 drives and the new one is currently a single drive, but will be setup as a raid 1.
the old server had the OS in drive 1 and the program on the others
the old server also did not have the users documents on there.

the new server has the OS and the program on a single drive.
it also contains all users documents and settings since i have it set up as a
roaming profile for each user so that they can use any workstation. i also want to back up just the server.

so my question is, why is everything so slow?
the program is slow [ this is a database program for client info ]
login is slow 3-4 minutes.

should i keep the OS and program on the current drive and move the roaming profiles and documents to another? will accessing the program and documents on seperate drives help?
or even partitian the current drive by 3 partitians:
C: = OS
D: = Program
E: = Documents

just looking as to why such an large increase in hardware updates would run slower.

thanks

using windows server 2003 r2
using windows xp pro svc pk3
