The Solution Rating System
|
|
| With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating. - The Grade of the Solution
- The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
- The Number of Author and Expert Comments
- The Number of Experts Contributing
- The Feedback of the Community
Your Input Matters Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site. If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support. Thank you! |

Asked by GMartin in Wireless Networking, PC Laptops
Hi Everyone;
I am wanting to help a friend get onto the internet with their wireless Acer Aspire one series laptop, (model number: ZG5). Before this can be accomplished, I realize the laptop must be able to detect an available wireless network. Unfortunately, the wireless network adapter, Atheros AR5007EG is unable to do that at this time.
With respect to what has been done so far, I have run an ipconfig test which came back with a message indicating media disconnected. Within Network Connections for Wireless Network Connection 2, I see a red X saying Not connected, Firewalled Atheros AR5007EG Wireless N. By the way, the router I have is the "G" series of the Belkin wireless routers? would that make a difference with the WiFi Card being "N' and the router being "G"? With respect to Device Manager, I do see an entry of Network adapters with an entry of Atheros AR5007EG Wireless Network Adapter.... But, I also see an entry titled Other Devices with an entry in it called Ethernet Controller. Could this invalid entry possible explain why this laptop never detects any available wireless networks? I know that Other Devices should never be seen in Device Manager. Perhaps there is a corrupted or missing network adapter drivers.
In closing, any attention given to this question will be greatly appreciated. I will look forward to trying out whatever troubleshooting suggestions everyone may have on this matter.
Thank you.
George
