Tutorial Required on Novell Netware

Hi All,

I used to use Novell Netware approx 6 years ago and haven't touched it since.
I used it for about 2-3 years. (I've been using MS EXCHANGE, USER MANAGER, XP, 2000 etc).

A "Possible" new job I have lined up involves a bit of Novell so I wanted to "Brush up" on my no doubt obviously RUSTY Novell skills.

What I'm after is any links with screenshots, tutorials etc that give day to day running of Novell such as Resetting passwords, creating accounts etc etc.

I'm sure I'll pick it up again quickly, but need some help to remind me how.

The first place I would start is a book by Peter Kuo called "NDS Basics".

This book will cover all of the basic principles of using directory services, the basis for all recent NetWare systems. It wil touch upon User objects, Printing, Login Scripts, etc as well as some basic day-to-day health check routines. It lists for $30 but you should be able to pick one up used for ~$10.

Novell also has thorough documentation available online at http://www.novell.com/documentation
If it is a Novell product, you will find it there. Concentrate on:

ConsoleOne (management interface)
Novell x.x (whichever version you will be supporting)

For example, NetWare 6: http://www.novell.com/documentation/lg/nw6p/index.html
Here you will find topics listed by subject that provide coverage of primary responsibilites and functionality of the product.

Assuming you have the hardware, nothing beats actually using the product.  You can download an ISO image of NW 6.5 for evaluation.  It includes a 3-user license.  That should be enough to play around with the product.

The Novell support forums (news://support-forums.novell.com) are a very good source of overall info.  I browse several everyday.

Wooo-hooo-mojo,

I'm in exactly the same spot as the first devil (except I have 1 day to cram Novell and I've never worked on it before!)  The possible job is big and unfortunately they use No--Vell (on top of Win2K even, real swift, I don't care about its great security!)  The tutorial on Console1.3 was fantastic, thanks!
