Hey folks.... before I jump into the rabbit hole, I thought I would run this by you folks.
Having done enough research on this now, I feel reasonably assured that using a SATA RAID configuration should work for my application.
Purpose: Primary file/print server
OS: Novell Open Ent. Server (Netware 6.5)
Clients served: ~35 (max 40), computers connected: ~70
Typical data volume (based upon Netware 5.0 Console monitor 5.22) and 8h/day mixed access (Minor ACCESS 2K databases, AutoCAD and Solid Edge CAD, standard file retrievals, etc.) for a total of 32 employees?
How busy is my primary file server? In 17 days: 1,450,317,179 (Bytes transmitted modulo 4GB) and 3,686,502,617 (Bytes received modulo 4GB)
The proposed configuration: SATA RAID 10 (for best possible performance) - 5 hard drives (4 in RAID, 1 hot spare)
The proposed equipment
Hot Swap chassis: Supermicro Mobile Rack CSE-M35T-1 HS SATA (Quantity 2)

Reason for choosing SATA over SCSI Ultra 320? Quite simply MONEY! I already own the Adaptec SCSI RAID 2120S from my previous budget year but now that I have approval to complete this server upgrade I am looking at a cost of $3600.00 just for 5 73GB drives. For less than $2300, I could purchase 7 250GB SATA drives, the controller, and the chassis. Additionally, the 500GB gives me a lot more expansion room as opposed to the 140GB with SCSI; that was bare minimum for my requirements.
Thoughts, comments, or criticisms are welcome! Points given to those who can provide sound advice (pro or con).
