Yeah, sticking the IP address in the login scripts works.. but that is NOT a fix for the problem, however I will try the NIC, and see what happens.

On certain older machines, machine cannot see a new resource (CLUSTER_SHARED for example). SLP, DHCP, DNS is all working fine. Machines can PING and TRACERT the resource, but when mapping get Error Code 8884 Speciifed Server Unknown

However... if I go to ANYMACHINE with the problem.. do START - RUN and type \\<ip of resource> and then do \\CLUSTER_SHARED.. it works FINE
Any ideas.. and trust me, we have flushed, reconfigured, compared to newer machines, done SLPINFO's, reset SLP on servers.. nothing works.. HELP!! this happens only on out EV530 (compaq), workstations that are HP DC7600 and beyond do not have the issue

1) The version you specified is for the Novell Client32 - 4.90 SP2. What version of NetWare are you connecting to? What is the SP of the NetWare server(s)?
2) NetWare doesn't have "shared drives." It has Volumes that people have access to - and that is the main purpose of NetWare volumes. Is this "cluster_shared" a NetWare volume serviced by a NetWare cluster? If so, do the verification alextoft recommends and post back.
3) You mention what works but not what doesn't. What is the text within the login script of the MAP command that fails?

Have you tried putting the IP address of the server in the "server name" field of the login screen?
A more drastic fix might be to add a different NIC. We had a similar issue with HP 510's that had a braodcom nic installed. In a nutshell, the nic driver took *FOREVER* to acquire a DHCP address, so all the SLP lookups would fail
