We've been dealing with this problem on and off for a couple months.
Novell Netware 6.0 on Dell Poweredge 4400.
Symantec Backup Exec 9.2 1401
The first problem occurred when the internal DLT drive died (dead cold)
We've replaced that with a Dell PoewrVault 100T, which is just a Tandbeg TS400
We've replaced the SCSI host controller card (history of it all is just too long). Adaptec 39160 host controller
I just ruled out cables and terminators. We just applied Sym BE 9.2 1401.5 and applied driver set 2 for 9.2.
Note, we also have a certance ultrium2 connected to this same server which has always run without error and continues to do so for a separate backup job.
The Tandberg is backing up Groupwise; the backup job worked flawlessly with the old DLT drive (until said DLT died cold)
SO, the troubles are with Tandberg drive backing up Groupwise. The most recent error has been seen more than once, with all sorts of different configurations, so this is where we need to start:
While backing up the Post OFfice, an error occurs as if someone cancelled it (see error below) note, this is 4 am
Set description: "BackupJob_1"
Backup of SERVER02.GroupWise System/SERVER02.GroupWise System/[PO]GWPO:
Drive: "HA:7 ID:6 LUN:0 TANDBERG TS400"
Media function terminated by keyboard request.
In the job summary it then reports
"Job completed: Job did NOT complete - A drive failure was detected. (2-4623)"
Also, Netware console reported this about that time:
adpt160m-16.0-0 informational: host adapter hardware error (414020A2)
The only other piece of information that may be useful is that the certance is on a controller which ended up being the "single image master" for the current controller, as they are the same model controller and seem to need to work with each other. However, this configuration worked for two weeks straight without an error though.
There are several other controllers (and ports, we even tried channel B next to the certance) on this server that we've tried as well before getting a new card, but all ended up giving some sort of problem.
