Novell to W2K now causes File Errors

I'm trying to phase out a Novell 5 server by moving shared files/folders to a W2K SP4 Std Server. I moved the files using the "xxcopy" utility which I have used successfully many times in the past from Novell to W2K. The files moved were for a specific department which I created an NT Login script to map the drive (using NET USE command) to this department folder (\\server\share) on the W2K server. Each users home folder was manually mapped to the same W2K server using a persistent connection. Most of the computers in this dept are unfortunately Window 98 machines with Office 2000. Once the move happened, I removed the Microsoft Netware Client and IPX protocol from their machines.

Ever since the files moved from Novell (and IPX), there are quite a few people (not everyone) experiencing problems when saving their excel 2000 files. All of these files have many macros (which someone in their dept created). I've had complaints the files take much longer to save now, hangs even when not saving, and a handful of users intermittently get errors messages such as "Document not Saved" and "Disk is Full" when trying to save their files. The server or computer's disks are not full. When the errors occur, they end up having to lose their information and start all over with the file. Even if they try to do a "save as" and save to the local machine, it does not work. Once the file is closed without saving, they re-open and it saves fine.

I cannot recreate the errors. I've heard from some users that the errors don't occur every day. I've researched Microsoft for these errors, and there are a plethora of possiblities for these errors, but none I have found for my specific situation or that have resolved this problem.
