The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Can't deploy an MSI application object to non-admin users - Help!

Asked by CRPM in Novell Netware Network Software, Windows XP Operating System

Hi there,

I am struggling to discover why i cannot deploy an MSI application object to users within our eD/AD organisation.  This vendor MSI needs to write to the C:\ and the registry, as many apps do.  I created the app and assigned 'Run as secure system user' as the Executable security level.  When running the app on the desktop, or force running to the assigned user, the MSI fails - the eventlog displaying the following:

Product: EAS Client -- Error 1303.The installer has insufficient privileges to access this directory: C:\Program Files\ZANTAZ.  The installation cannot continue.  Log on as an administrator or contact your system administrator.

The app installs fine to those users who have local admin rights.  The company here have a policy which amongst other things, removes the C:\ and the run command as an available option.  I assumed the 'run as a secure user' option would override this?

When i assign the app object to the workstation, it installs, whether an admin or non-admin user are logged in.  Unfortunately this is not an option for rollout.

I have tried several variations and switches but to no avail - this app doesn't want to install

Forgive me if there isnt much info here, i understand what a wide variance of things could be causing this, im just hoping someone has some insight into this..

Thanks
