Expanding NSS volume

Good Afternoon

I recently upgraded my TFS volume to a  NSS volume.  I now want to expand the volume, I have about 1 tb available for it.  Can someone list a process to make this happen?

Thank you

Is this new space on a separate physical disk?

There are several methods to expanding an NSS pool:

1. NSSMU as deroode has described.
If it's a new disk, it may not be initialized for use by NSS, so my first step in NSSMU is to go to the Devices menu option.  If the only device listed is the current one, switch out to the server console and type SCAN FOR NEW DEVICES.

Then, go back to NSSMU and see if the device is listed.  If it is, highlight it, and hit F3 to initialize the disk.

Once the disk is initialized, it will show as free space in the POOLS menu.  In that menu, highlight the pool you'd like to expand, and then use F3 to expand.  It'll list the available partitions you can use, and then you can calculate how much space you'll need.

2. Remote Manager.   https://<your server's IP>:8009
log in as a user with Supervisor rights to your Server.

On the Left-side navigation panel, select Manager Server | Partition Disks

You should see a listing of partitions both in use and available.  If the device is not showing here, use the SCAN FOR NEW DEVICES at the server console (you can verify it's been detected by issuing the LIST DEVICES command as well)

The disk may need to be initialized here as well, but there's be a little blue link to the side of the listing allowing you to initialize it.

The pools will also be listed here, and there will be a link next to the pool you'd like to expand labeled "expand pool" once again once it'll have you select which partitino to use, and then how much of that partition you'll be using.

3. iManager  -  http://<your server's IP>/nps/iManager

Log in as a user with Supervisor rights to your server, and select the STORAGE role from the left-hand navigation panel.

Select the POOLS task, and then select the server the pool belongs to in the large working panel. (use the little magnifying glass icon to browse the tree for the server object)

The pools associated with this server will be listed below.  Select the pool you wish to expand, and then click the Expand Pool button.  A work window will pop up, in which you select the device, and then the amount of space to assign to the pool.

Things to keep in mind when expanding pools:  It's always possible to expand an NSS pool, but they can not be resized to a smaller size.  A good rule of thumb is to add space when needed, not necessarily all at once.

If the volumes residing on the pool have quotas, the quotas should also be resized accordingly.

Remote Manager requires PORTAL.NLM be running on the server.

iManager requires that the iManager product be installed on the server.
