Problems with slow backup on Netware 6.5 SP8 and ISCSI NSS volumes

I have Arcserve 11.1 SP3 for Netware on a dedicated backup server backing up 3 Netware 6.5 SP8 Servers that are running Arcserve 11.1 SP3 Backup Agents.  Two of the servers have ISCSI NSS volumes from a Wasabi Systems IP-SAN 4.0 Target Server.  The ISCSI is running on a dedicated Gigabit backbone.  The IP-SAN server also provides ISCSI storage to a Windows 2003 and a Windows 2008 server.  The windows servers are backed up using Arcserve for Windows 11.5 SP2.  They backup up with no problem.  When backing up the ISCSI NSS volumes it is 1/3rd the speed of backing up local NSS volumes.  I have tried setting up the network cards that are used on the dedidcated backbone with jumbo frames with no change.  All servers have 4gb of memory.

Firstly you need to make sure that the the configuration file for the backup server and the remote netware servers are edited correctly.

Edit the file asconfig.ini for the backup server and the remote server and add the lines below

[NetWare Backup/Restore]
UseMultipleReadThreads=FALSE
PerformanceNonNakoma=TRUE
DisableSSIBackup=TRUE

Also on the brightstor arcserve scheduler console and select the option below as yes

Use SMS Logic for DOS and MAC Files Also:                          Yes

Also go the remote netware server where the client agent for netware is installed and the go to the NWagent console\configuration

 Use SMS Logic for DOS and MAC Files:                                 Yes

I had everything set except DisableSSIBackup=TRUE.  I will make that change and try the backup tonight and let you know how it works out.

The DisableSSIBackup=TRUE line is set so that it doesnt backup the server specific information it is only required if you are backing up the netware server with the disaster recovery option

After making the changes, the backup starts off at a speed of about 1 gigabit, but it drops down to the 190,000kb speed and is still running the next morning.  I will try running the backup again tonight, except this time I will disable Multiplexing mode, so that it only backs up 1 volume at a time.

I came across this info that recommends knocking some nlms back to SP7 level.
