how do i use msiexec to apply sp3 to an admin image on a Novell server

I have an admin image of Office 2003 on a Novell Netware 6.5 server; \\server\drive\office\pro11.msi
I have sp3 msp files extracted to \\server\drive\sp3\mainsp3.msp plus a couple of others
I run this from the command line, running Win XP:
msiexec /p \\server\drive\sp3\mainsp3.msp  /a \\server\drive\office\pro11.msi
Drive and server are identical for both msi and msp paths, just different folders.
All I get is a window that shows me a list of msiexec parameters, and nothing happens
No big deal, i can apply the patch to clients with ohotfix, but this is really bugging me...
