Ever dreamed of a one-stop operating system solution? One that is both easy to use
and so powerful it could administer an enterprise network? That dream is now a
reality thanks to OS/2 Warp 4. Offering exceptional connectivity, outstanding systems
management, easier-than-ever Internet access, and an enhanced user interface, OS/2
Warp 4 is designed to be the universal client.
OS/2 Warp 4 sets the stage for network computing enhancements with two "firsts" for
PC operating system solutions. One, OS/2 Warp 4 offers integrated runtime support
for Java applications. This means these applications will run on your desktop without
a Web browser. And two, OS/2 Warp 4 includes integrated IBM VoiceType
technology which takes the user interface to the next level and makes it easier to surf
the Web through the use of voice commands. So take your hand off the snooze button
and stop dreaming. OS/2 Warp 4 is here.

Hi ramesh ,
what's OS/2-
OS/2 Warp is a 32-bit operating system for IBM and IBM-compatible PC's. It's more reliable than Windows 95/98, and it's faster and more stable than Windows
NT. If you want to get the most out of your computer and are unsatisfied with Microsoft's offerings, consider OS/2 Warp.
Some of the advantages of Windows 95 and Windows NT over OS/2 Warp 4:
- Runs bloated Win32 applications that eat up your hard drive space and crash all the time.
Keeps you on the cutting (or bleeding) edge of technology by forcing you to upgrade your hardware and software every six months.
Its low reliability keeps you employed as a IS manager.
Some of the advantages of OS/2 Warp 4 over Windows 95 and Windows NT:
You don't have to worry about internet security. There are no loopholes like there are in Windows 95/NT.
Better compatibility with DOS and 16-bit Windows apps, including games.
An object-oriented user interface (called the Work Place Shell, or WPS) which is easier to use and more powerful. You can also take a tour of the OS/2
desktop to see what it looks like and what you can do with it.
Better built-in Internet and networking support
Built-in Java(jdk117 ) support allows you to directly run Java applications, without a web browser. And OS/2's Java faster than NT's
Free Voice navigation/dictation, so you can speak instead of type
Better support for cross-platform industry standards instead of Microsoft's Windows-only proprietary and inferior technologies
BonusPak gives you free productivity applications.
The Device Driver Pak CD-ROM includes hundreds of device drivers gathered from hardware vendors, BBS's, and Internet sites worldwide.
Application Sampler gives you demos of dozens of OS/2 Warp applications
REXX - a powerful yet easy-to-learn batch/macro language that's fully integrated in OS/2 and many OS/2 applications. You won't find anything like it on
Windows.
-networking side
-currently os/2TCPIP is using ip v4 and along with IPsec .
- check the DYNAMIC IPSIDE
-> os/2 dhcp server is not comparable with winnt dhcp server .I am not mentioning all the adv . IF You want specific diifs mail me at kishore_k@usa.net
-os2 dhcp clients one of the unique features is it can use the clientID as any unique
alphanumeric id apart from the usual hardware adress. also dhcp client can update the A-Record/ptr record to ddns by itself .which is not supported by windows .
please do visit the IBM WEBSITE for the latest os/2 updates.A new operating system based on os/2 is goin to be released called "Aurora".It is bascially a new warp server tuned with lanserver v6, tcpip stack 4.2.1, latest jdk 1.1.7 support etc.......
- moreover the best support available from IBM .
