First I would like to see the details in the error message.  Some thoughts come to mind, most having to do with ports.  Are you accessing your imap server from the same lan or is there a firewall inbetween.  Also what port did you put your imap server on the client and on the server.

Can you give us a little more detail about what you are using for imap connection?

the details of the outlook error are;
There may be server or network problems or your timeout interval may be too short.

      Protocol:      IMAP
      Server:      mail.blossompark.net
      Port:      993

also changed to default port 143, same result...i am accessing the imap server via my cable modem from home. the imap server is hosted by a web hosting company

also get these errors when i click send/receive
Task 'Checking for new mail in subscribed folders on mail.blossompark.net.' reported error (0x800CCC0E) : 'Could not fetch new headers in the folder (null) for Account mail.blossompark.net. Error:Unable to connect to the server..'

Task 'mail.blossompark.net: Folder:Inbox Check for new mail.' reported error (0x800CCC0E) : 'Could not fetch new headers in the folder Inbox for Account mail.blossompark.net. Error:Unable to connect to the server..'

ok here is what I see.
1st) you are running your mail server on an apache server?
2nd) it is being hosted by scarlet.webhostingireland.ie

I can see two potental issues
1st) your mx record points to blossompark.net not mail.blossompark.net.  I think that is issue number one.
2nd) the configuration of the site doesn't seem to be correct.  Since I can't see the back end I cant help you too much on this one.  What I can say is that I find no records for imap.blossompark.net and no records for smtp.blossompark.net.   I can also see that with a little of effort someone wearing the wrong colored hat can make the server into an open relay.  This fact screams that the imap server is not configured correctly on the back end.

Does your hosting company have any support techs that can help you with the back end stuff?

Hi, the hosting company requested the information below  which I supplied.
They said they were able to set up an imap connection from a desktop machine using the same configuration as i have.

Please tell me the following settings from your outlook configuration:
your username:
your password:
incoming mailserver:mail.blossompark.net
outgoing mailserver:mail.blossompark.net
incoming port:143
outgoing port:25

(the ports are listed in the advanced tab, which is sometimes in the 'more settings' area).
