Exchange 2007 SSL connectors for pop3 and smtp?

Asked by hbaber in Post Office Protocol 3 (POP3), Exchange Email Server

Tags: exchange, 2007, ssl, pop3, smtp

I have remote clients that are currently setup using SSL ports 995 (pop3) and 465 (smtp) for email.  I need to configure my Exchange 2007 server to use these same ports so my clients will still work when I turn off the old (not exchange) server.  Having these users change from pop3 to mapi isn't an option at this point and they will be migrated later.  How do I do this?

I currently have an Edge server, a Client Access Server, and a hub and mailbox server.  Everything is working fine on the owa and mapi side and now need to get SSL ports 995 and 465 to work so my existing clients continue to work.Start Free Trial

Have you enabled POP3 in the Command Shell?
Have you then enabled the SSL certificate for use with POP3?
Have you even imported your SSL certificate in to Exchange 2007?

Have you enabled POP3 in the Command Shell?
Yes, get-CASmailbox shows pop is enabled on all mailboxes

Have you then enabled the SSL certificate for use with POP3?
Yes, CAS cert is enabled for Imap, POP, and Web

Have you even imported your SSL certificate in to Exchange 2007?
I exported the CAS cert and then imported it onto the edge server does it need to go on exchange server also?

I am assuming that I need to add a receive connector to edge for port 465 but when I do this it isn't ssl enabled.  I can telnet to 465 and see the banner and I shouldn't

What makes you think that you shouldn't see the banner when you telnet to port 465?
I can see the banner when I telnet to the port and I know that TLS is working as the headers say so.

I don't see a banner if I telnet to ports 465 or 995 to my production server.  I don't see a banner on 995 on my exchange server and I do on 465.  That is why.

Are the ports listening?
If I telnet to those ports on my E2007 server I see a banner. That is because of the way these protocols work - they make a non-secure connection then make the secure link afterwards.

Simon.

yes, the ports are listening.  I don't want TLS to be used because I have to reconfigure my clients and that isn't an option today.  It doesn't look like Exchange 2007 supports SSL for smtp like my current server does.

02.21.2007 at 05:35AM PST, ID: 18578112
TLS is the same as SSL for POP3/SMTP. It has just been renamed recently from TLS to POP3 over SSL. If you enable your clients to use SSL you will probably find in the headers it says it is TLS.

Forgot this was open.  According to Microsoft you cannot change the port that Exchange 2007 uses to 995.  All of my clients were using SSL already on port 995 and since I could not get Exchange to use 995 I reconfigured all my clients and now they use MAPI now.

I appreciate the help that was given but since none of the answers applied I would like points refunded and question closed.

TLS and SSL are similar but are NOT the same. TLS is the succesor of SSL.
