As of last week, my Exchange 2003 server was not an open relay as far as I could tell using the test available from abuse.net. However, when I ran the test again this week, it is showing the server is an open relay and I receive the test messages to prove it. I have verified the settings on the Default SMTP virtual server and they are showing that relaying is not permitted. On the Relay tab "Only the list below" is checked and there is nothing in the list below. There are no other SMTP virtual servers listed in ESM. When I stop the Default SMTP virtual server, the open relay test can't connect and therefore fails. So I believe the Default SMTP virtual server is the culprit, but I can't figure out why. I also checked our two recipient policies and both of them are only accepting SMTP mail for our domain. Does anyone have any ideas as to what is going on?
