The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

SMTP greylisting error

Tags: smtp, error, 450
Hello everybody,

I'm having a problem with an exchange server wich worked great all the time but is generating an error.

 <mail.xxxxx.be #4.0.0 smtp;450 <xxxxxxx@xxxxxxx.be>: Recipient
address rejected: Greylisting in action, please try again later>

There where no changes made on the server side.
As I was looking on the internet greylisting is a new kind of spam fighting software.

The receipent used to get mail before. I xxxxxx the receipent because of unwanted spam. It is a valid adress.

How can I make changes so that greylisting error is no longer there?

Is this being bounced back to you when you send to a particular e-mail address?

If so, It looks like they are using greylisting and your e-mails are being rejected for some reason.

I have this with sevral diffrent email receipents.
All on the same domains.

@pandora.be

I'll give a complete example

 <mail.xxxx.be #4.0.0 smtp;450 <xxxxxx@pandora.be>:
Recipient address rejected: Greylisting in action, please try again
later>
Reporting-MTA: dns; SBS2003DC01.xxxxx.local

Final-Recipient: RFC822; xxxxxxxx@pandora.be
Action: failed
Status: 4.0.0
X-Supplementary-Info: <mail.xxxxx.be #4.0.0 smtp;450 <xxxxxxxxx@pandora.be>: Recipient address rejected: Greylisting in action, please try again later>
X-Display-Name: xxxxxxxx (E-mail)

didn't see this before that it is only with @pandora mails

It would seem that the people who own Pandora.be aren't accepting e-mail from your domain.

Check to see if your domain has been greylisted;

I will contact the people from pandora.be tomorrow. and ask if something could be blocking my domain.

the test in spamhaus returned

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is not listed in the SBL

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is not listed in the PBL

xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is not listed in the XBL

So, I think we are safe not being on a blacklist.

It is possible that they have manually added your domain or they are using a different list.

I would contact them too and ask them :)

Sounds like someone hasn't setup the greylisting correctly. You shouldn't see greylisting errors - that is the point. The greylisting sends back a temporary error. This doesn't generate an NDR on your side, the server simply queues the email messages and then sends them again.

The only other cause can be something on your side scanning the SMTP traffic when it shouldn't do and the NDR is not being handled correctly.

Simon.

Dear all,

after long searching. I added an regstry key fix. To a bug in the greylisting for exchange server.
I also added an alternate dns server for the microsfot default SMTP virtual server.

Some (most) emalis are send out now. only 5 mails still in the queue.
Not 100% but still a problem.
