Unable to send email to specific domain, all other email is fine

Zones: Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), Exchange Email Server, Domain Name Service (DNS)

Tags: Microsoft, Exchange, 2000, Exchange default virtual SMTP server and FQDN, <host.domain.local #5.7.1 smtp;550 5.7.1 <host.domain.local>: Helo command rejected: Host not found>

Sending email to users at one external site is failing. Inbound email traffic from external domain is fine.

All other email traffic is fine.

Failed message logs for user@other.domain.com
SMTP: Started Outbound Transfer of Message
SMTP: Non-Delivered Report (NDR) Generated

Change my Exchange server settings.
FQDN under Default SMTP Virtual Server (Properties - Delivery - Advanced - FQDN)
Change host.domain.local to host.domain.com

Restart Microsoft Exchange Routing Engine Service, outbound message sent successfully.

Successful test, message log:
SMTP: Started Outbound Transfer of Message
Message transferred to mx3.zoneedit.com through SMTP

In addition, I noticed errors in the Event Logs (Windows 2000)

Argus Application Event log shows DCOM errors.

Description:
DCOM was unable to communicate with the computer mx3.zoneedit.com using any of the configured protocols

The above changes I made testing solutions found online, which seemed to work. My questions are
- Do I want/need my Exchange settings change for the Virtual SMTP server?
- WIll this cause other problems?
- Why does email work fine for all other domains, excluding this one?

The external site, based on the routing info, looks to be using ZoneEdit. I successfully emailed postmaster@zoneedit.com as another test.
