The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Postfix SMTP server refusing outside connections

Tags: Linux Fedora Core 7, Postfix, 2.5.1, SMTP Server, Connecting to SMTP server failed. The server may be unavailable or refusing SMTP connections.
Hi, I have recently setup a virtual dedicated server with godaddy. It is a Linux Fedora Core 7 server, with Postfix, 2.5.1.  Everything is working except for sending mail. I have 2 websites on there and neither will send mail via remote SMTP clients. Now it works if I go through the squirrelmail webmail client, but if I try to use an email client such as outlook or thunderbird, it wont connect to the SMTP server. It can receive fine, just not send.

Ive tried modifying my main.cf and master.cf postfix config files numerous times and I cant seem to figure out what setting I have wrong that is making it refuse any outside SMTP connections. I also set IPTables to allow all traffic.

Since the default setup from godaddy did not work from the start to send mail, I redid my postfix setup following these instructions: http://howtoforge.com/perfect_server_fedora7_p5 and still no luck.

In my email clients, I have the following config for outgoing mail:
servername: mail.[mydomain.net]
port: 25
using authentication, full email address as username.
Tried both with TLS enabled and disabled.

Using port 25, I get and error saying the server may be unavailable or is refusing SMTP connections.
Ive also tried changing the port to 3535 by adding the following line to master.cf:
3535 inet n - n - - smtpd
and I get the same error, so I know its not my ISP blocking the port (and I know 3535 works w/ my ISP because I have another email account using that port)

Im using simple control panel and webmin, as well as command line to control the server.

Below is my current config for main.cf and master.cf, where [mydomain.net] is replaced by my actual domain.  And godaddy says to use k2smtpout.secureserver.net as the relayhost.

Any ideas on why I cant send mail?

Also, here is the output for doing a telnet localhost 25 / ehlo localhost on the server:

250-ip-72-167-163-127.ip.secureserver.net
250-PIPELINING
250-SIZE 10240000
250-VRFY
250-ETRN
250-STARTTLS
250-ENHANCEDSTATUSCODES
250-8BITMIME
250 DSN
