There was a SMTP communication problem with the recipient's email server. Please contact your system administrator. <mydomain.com #5.5.0 smtp;530 authentication required for relay (#5.7.1)>
So we've been receiving rejection emails when sending to only one or two domains. See above error. I've tried many things and am at my witts end. Can someone give me some insite?
Here is the setup: 2 office locations. Location 1 - Exchange server and other servers (file, domain, etc) Location 2 - Domain controller/file server
All users connect to exchange using outlook 2003 sp3 with Outlook over http. It seems that the Location 2 users are the ones having the bounced email issue. I've asked users at Location 1 and they are not receiving any bounces. I have received bounces using Outlook Webmail. These bounces are sometime intermittant.
1- Open Exchange System Manager. Navigate to: Administrative Groups > (your domain) > Servers > (your server name) > Protocols > SMTP 2- Right click 'Default SMTP Virtual Server' and select properties. 3- Click the Access tab, click the Relay button. By default 'Only the list below' is checked and the local subnet is in the list. Sounds like you need to add the subnet for branch 2. So for example if branch 2 computers are 192.168.2.x you would click 'add', select Group of Computers' in the subnet address field type: 192.168.2.0 in the subnet mask field type 255.255.255.0
I will give that a try. But would that be an issue since their outlooks are connecting directly with the exchange server in Location 1 and not through another server? We also have another location 3 and haven't had any issues. Same exact setup. I've also confirmed that the error/bounce back is intermittant.
