Question

Hotmail not receiving messages from regular senders

Asked by: computerlarry

My client, a Hotmail user, has discovered that they did not receive many messages this week. These emails were sent by people who email her almost every day. Not all messages were blocked, none of the missing messages are in the Hotmail spam folder.  One of the senders is a family member who sends from G-Mail, which I assume filters for viruses.

Is there any reason why Hotmail would intermittantly not receive email from known users?

Thanks

Hello computerlarry,

Hotmail spam filter are very strong.  Unless you are using Hotmail to send to Hotmail, it is difficult to get through.  Add all known senders to Safe Sender list.  Then emails will come through.

If no joy, lower the Hotmail junk filter settings.

Hope this helps!

I've been using hotmail since 1997 and for my business activities since 2005, and I can honestly say I've never had a delivery problem with either incoming or outgoing mail - until now. I am having exactly the same problem as described by computerlarry which seems to be intermittent and includes mail to/from regular contacts, both professional and personal.

It's taken me awhile to realise that there is actually a problem but I am now 100% sure of the intermittent nature of the delivery problem which has nothing to do with my filters or safe list. I am simply not receiving all emails from people with whom I have emailed for years and who are listed in my address book.

I have email accounts with several external clients and a copy of any email sent to that address is also forwarded to my hotmail address so I am able to manage all my emails from the one location.

That's how I know for sure I am having problems because I am finding emails sitting in my external client inbox that have not auto-copied to me at hotmail when others around them have. And in most cases, the email is from someone with whom I have regular email communication.

I can have an email exchange with someone without a problem, then suddenly I stop receiving their emails and then later on in the day or the next day, everything is all right again.

Initially I thought the problem was only from a specific address but I've since realised it's not the case and the problem appears to be random which is causing me quite some bother. The random delivery issues is affecting emails sent direct to me at hotmail as well as those that are auto-copied to me from my other corporate accounts

Mainly it seems to be emails coming into my hotmail account although I suspect there are problems with some of my outgoings although this is harder for me to pinpoint.

As I can't seem to find a solution, I have decided to set-up a Gmail account and will start to use that in preference to hotmail. I travel a lot and say what you will about the evils of public free email accounts, but these services are perfect for me and as I've already said, this is the first significant problem I've had in 11 years. Unfortunately it's a biggie and causing me problems professionally so I can afford to hang around for a solution.

Any more thoughts on the problem, I'd be grateful to hear back.

Many thanks.

SthnStar, you should ask a new question.

Me too. I am also abandoning hotmail over this issue. I have tried to contact their support but it's useless.

Emails (from people in my contact list that have been sending me stuff for years) suddenly stopped arriving in mid December 2008.
