Access exchange from home

Hi,

I am having a few problems accessing our exchange server from home via Outlook 2007.  OWA works fine and alike however when i enter the ip and other credentials it is unable to connect.  When it comes back to the server address after it says unable to connect it shows the servers local address rather than internet.  It is causing me quite a bit of grief at the moment so any help would be much appreciated.
