The Solution Rating System
|
|
| With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating. - The Grade of the Solution
- The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
- The Number of Author and Expert Comments
- The Number of Experts Contributing
- The Feedback of the Community
Your Input Matters Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site. If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support. Thank you! |

Asked by LouisVuitton in Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP), Exchange Email Server
I have a 2003 Server which is running a 3rd Party Software, used to send out a simple email from the application. I have the firewall configured to allow emails to be sent out externally and also this server is listed as one of the allowed hosts to relay email. I can do a telnet 25 smtp test and everything is verified to be working. This application has 2 components of when it sends out email. One component is successfully sending out email but the other component is failing. Obviously the email communication is working and configured properly.
The problem is with the 2nd component failing, the software vendor is telling me that the only way this will work is if my Exchange 2003 server has SSL authentication enabled for the connection in the software/server talking to Exchange 2003. He says all of his clients set up their software communication with Exchange to be SSL authenticated.
I don't know too much about setting up Exchange, but this SSL authentication connections (internally from server to server) common? Right now, my Exchange 2003 server is not using any type of SSL or TLS connection authentication. I'm worried to make any changes to an Exchange server and suddenly have email connection problems with the entire company. Is it something simple to do and set up without affecting the way current users are using email?
