FTP settings required for Bluecoat Proxy - FileZilla

Asked by ottobock in File Transfer Protocol (FTP), Apple Operating Systems, FTP Software

Tags: FileZilla, 3.x, FTP behind Bluecoat Proxy Security

Hello!
We have just installed a Bluecoat Security/Proxy system for our business.
Some of our end-users need to FTP through the Bluecoat for various reasons.  We have a solution for Windows users, but not our couple Mac OS users.

FileZilla v.2.2.32 works with Windows because it has a FTP proxy compatibility setting named:
- USER RemoteID@RemoteHost FireID
Unfortunately, v2.2.32 is unavailable (except via source code) for Mac OS.  Version 3.x is available for Mac, but the Proxy settings have changed...  I think it will be a matter of arranging the security/communication string correctly, but heck if I know in what order...  Heres whats in FileZilla v3:
-----------
USER %s
PASS %w
USER %u@%h
PASS %p
ACCT %a
-----------
(%h=host, %u=username, %p=password, %s=proxy user, %w=proxy password, %a=account(lines containing this will be omitted if not using Account logontype))
-----------

Anyone have advice???
If not on the connection string, does anyone know of a FTP client for Mac that handles the non-transparent proxy security type USER RemoteID@RemoteHost FireID???

*Please note that I cannot change any of the Bluecoat settings*
*Please also note that I am a Windows-head and have no access to the Mac in question* :-)

If I can explain something better, please let me know!  And thank you for your time experts!!

Here is a pretty complete list of Mac FTP clients. Perhaps one will suit your purpose.

I suggest you try Interarchy, Fetch or RBrowser.

Cool - thanks for the list.  I'll have our Mac user take a look.  I'm going to leave this question open during the weekend. (but I cant check the question until next week)

I am really hoping someone has some FileZilla v3 experience because I think it can do the task.  I am just not familiar enough with the order of the string components.

Or a specific FTP client that directly handles "USER RemoteID@RemoteHost FireID"
Thanks!

Thanks Strung,

I found this posting too.  However, after checked on Cyberduck's website/forums, I found it does not support non-transparent proxies.  :-(

So the search continues...

By the way, have you tried setting the FTP proxy settings in the Mac System prefs? Pull down the Apple menu to System prefs and click on the Network prefs tab. Then click on whichever network connection is active (it will have a green dot). Then click on the advanced button at the bottom right. Click on the Proxies Tab, then set it to Configure Manually.

I also note that an alternative to "Manual" is to use a .pac file. I know nothing about .pac files, but have a look at these two links to see if they would solve your problem:

I am not sure which Bluecoat product you are using, but suggest you go to the Bluecoat forums at:

http://forums.bluecoat.com/

and search the forums for "apple" or "mac" or "pac file"

I checked through many of the posts on Bluecoat.com before - I always seem to come across threads like this:
http://forums.bluecoat.com/viewtopic.php?t=1082&highlight=ftp+macintosh
- This was 2 years ago, so I was hopes that something was found since then...

I'll leave the question open for just a couple more days incase anything comes up - Thanks again Strung for your time and good information!

See my post above about .pac files. Do you think that might work?

02.13.2008 at 07:06AM PST, ID: 20884728
Nothing going with the pac files - but I will forward all your info to our Mac user - and they can hopefully make something work.  :-)
Thanks again!
