The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

OWA, SSL Cert, and Domain Questions

Asked by _enIT in Secure Socket Layer (SSL) & HTTPS, Exchange Email Server, Microsoft IIS Web Server

Hi Everyone,

Were getting ready to upgrade our OWA and rollout RPC/HTTP which means we need to get a trusted cert.  Right now were using an internal CA so were getting the cert error when connecting via OWA, but at least its secure.  We arent using FBA until we get the cert issue cleaned up.

Heres our setup:
- 5 Exchange 2003 servers (1 frontend, 4 backend)
- Windows 2000 domain (will be upgrading to 2003 R2 DCs soon)
 Internal CA for now
- OWA Site:      email.mycompany.com (123.123.123.3) which redirects to  https://webmail.mycompany.com (123.123.123.5)
*This is hosted internally (NAT from pub IP)
**Both resolve to different IP addresses
- Public Site:      Mycompany.com
*This is hosted externally (no cert currently)
- In-house domain:      HQ.CorpOffice.com

When I join a new PC to the network, I use HQ (which then auto fills the rest).  Right now when my users connect to OWA they have to put in HQ\Username before they can authenticate correctly.

So Im a little rusty on getting SSL certs.  Here are my questions&
1.      To get a trusted cert from godaddy or whoever for OWA and RPC/HTTP, I would I just get webmail.mycompany.com correct?  Or would I have to get email.mycompany.com since this is the address before the redirect?
2.      Would this affect any future efforts in getting SSL on our external site which is being hosted elsewhere?
3.       Any considerations since users use the sub domain HQ to authenticate when logging in?
4.      Any unique considerations when using a front end server setup?

I just want to make sure I have the big picture correct.  Any help/tips would be greatly appreciated!
