We currently have one DHCP server in our environment and are deploying a 2nd with split scopes. We have a few questions re: implementing these, however. Were planning on excluding .1 - .50 on each scope and .245-.254 on each scope. Then we were planning to also exclude .148-.244 on DHCP server 2 while excluding .51-.147 on DHCP server
DHCP Server 1
.1 - .50 excluded
.51 - .148 available
.149 - .243 excluded
.244 - .254 excluded
DHCP Server 2
.1 - .50 excluded
.51 - .148 excluded
.149 - .243 available
.244 - .254 excluded
Our question is how to implement this in a production environment. Currently there are 200+ scopes (not ideal, but thats the set up from the past) and obviously there are already leases out on each scope. This is a 5000+ user environment.
When we put the new scope into production, what do we need to do with the current leases? Do they need to be copied over to the new DHCP server or should they not be in both places? What will it do to current lease holders who originally got a lease from DHCP server 1 but their lease would now be on the exclusion list for that server? Any supporting documentation that may be of assistance?
Thanks for any potential assistance!
