Background info:
I'm using SBS2003 R2 standard edition and its setup as the DHCP server.
The IP range is 192.168.110.1 to 192.168.110.254 with an exlcusion range of 192.168.110.1 to 192.168.110.100. This means the first address handed out is 192.168.110.101. I use the excluded range for items like printers/print servers etc. The IP address of the server is 192.168.110.2 and the router is 192.168.110.1. DHCP is not running on the router and there are no other DHCP servers on the LAN.
I also have a w2k3 server running Terminal services. Its IP address is 192.168.110.3.
There are several HP thin clients and several windows 98 boxes using MSRDP.
Since inital setup everythjing has been working fine. All machines were getting address and if I looked in the DHCP assigned addresses they were showing up. The problems occurred during the holidays when the business was closed and the DHCP leases expired because all the client pc's were turned off.
The problem is with the windows 98 machines. They do get an IP address in the range but the subnet mask they get is 255.0.0.0 or 255.255.0.0 and the address used does not show up in the DHCP assigned addresses on the SBS. This is causing random network issues. If I manually release and renew the address it gets the correct subnet mask and the problems go away.
Any help is much appreciated
