We receive IP address conflicts when we get a new address in DHCP

We have a Windows Server 2003 DHCP server.  It's also a Domain Controller.  It's patched up fully as of January '08, so it's only missing the most recently released patches and updates...we have a single scope handing out addresses on the subnet 10.70.0.1-254.  This scope has a lease duration of 8 days set in the scope properties.  PROBLEM: Many times when we bring a new workstation onto the network we get an IP address conflict.  when we turn off this new PC, and then ping the IP address that is supposedly in conflict we do not get a response.  So, it would seem we are getting an address conflict error for an IP address that isn't really assigned to a client.  When you look at the lease records, it shows that the new computer has been assigned the IP address, and the event logs are clean.Start Free Trial
