The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Is this on a 2000/2003 network? You can look in the DHCP console, expand the scope and click on Address Leases. Sort  the list by the field at the right "Unique ID" (really the MAC) and you should be able to find the address you need.

If it's DHCP from a router (Linksys, Netgear, etc) you can usually look at the config website for that and see attached devices.

Most printers also have a config page that can be printed to show the current IP address. What kind is it?

it is HP LaserJet 4050N.. how do i get the ip from the printer device itself???

From the printer's control panel, I think there is a menu +/- button. use that to go to the information menu. Use item +/- to get to an option like "Print Configuration Page" and press select.

Hello myinzu,

If you're not able to find out the IP from the printer itself by the instructions given by CrashDummy_MS, you might want to look into the ARP tables of your router. Or if you want, you can add an IP to your local ARP table by using "arp -s <IP you want to use> <MAC address>" and start from there.

In any case, getting the IP should be easy so the question is what troubles you here?

Regards,

LucF

Reserve as in one the card gave itself instead of one DHCP gave it?

You can go to the front panel of the printer and I believe it's on the EIO menu for that one, but maybe the configuration menu. If it won't get a DHCP address you'll need to assign it one there. After it has an address you can go to the printers folder of the PC, go to new printer. Pick local printer, uncheck automatically select, click next. Click create a port, select Standard TCPIP and click next. Put in the IP, click next a few times, pick the right driver for the LJ 4050 and you should be OK.

myinzu,

What is "it"? Which program tells you more port information is required?
Is is the add-printer wizard? If so, are you sure you've entered the right IP? Most printservers don't require a portnumber anymore (I'm not sure about this one), have you tried P1?

Regards,

LucF
