Dear Experts:
We have a local area network. In the local area network (domain name "aqua") we have a Windows Server 2000 machine (named "kingfisher") working as both the DNS server and DNS server (integrated with Active Directory). I am configuring a Windows Server 2008 machine (named "kingfisher2") to replace "kingfisher".
I start by trying to set up a domain "aqua2" and add a host (named "mermaid2") to it. However, I couldn't figure out how to let the DHCP server of kingfisher2 assign IP to hosts. Following are what I did.
1. I setup a DHCP server on kingfisher2, and let its address pool give IP like 192.168.2.* (Please see the screen shot kingfisher2_dhcp.jpg for details)
2. add a host record to the forward lookup zone of DNS on kingfisher2. (please see the screen shot kingfisher2_dns.jpg for details).
3. I change the domain name of mermaid2 to "aqua2", and explicitly set its DNS server to kingfisher2. (see mermaid2_network.jpg for details).
4. I use nslookup and ipconfig under mermaid2 to check its DNS server and IP address, and found that it got the IP of format 192.168.1.*, which is not from kingfisher2
My question is:
1. how to make the DHCP server of kingfisher2 work for mermaid2?
2. in general how to quickly migrate the settings of DHCP, DNS and AD from kingfisher (win2k) to kingfisher2 (win2k8)
3. any opinion that is helpful?
Thank you.
