The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

DNS Error associated wth configuration of Internet NIC card

Asked by valleyauto in Domain Name Service (DNS), Network Cards & Adapters, Active Directory

I have a Windows 2003 Server
There are two NIC cards, one 10.0.1.x serving the LAN, one 10.0.0.x connected directly to Firewall for Internet Connectivity.

Windows 2003 Server is configured to "serve" the Internet through the server to all network clients.

Windows 2003 Server has Active Directory and DNS installed.

This week, for no reason, the clients stopped communicating with the server. I tried a reboot of the server remotely with no success. Once I was onsite, I promptly rebooted the server. Alll came up well except the Internet on the server and all clients. Ultimately, I disabled the 10.0.0.x card, then enabled it and it took off. It's a Dell server, called Dell. Agreed to replace NIC to rule out hardware. Replaced the NIC, same thing, had to disable and enable the Internect NIC to get Internet to server and all clients.

During this reboot and during the time the Internet card was not communicating, some DNS vs Active Directory erros poped up in the DNS error log. I have attached the DNS event log for review. I have no idea why DNS and Active Directory were not communicating at the time.

But, I do feel that the DNS was to blame for the initial problem with the clients. This is a high priority job for me and I need to resolve this issue.

Thanks,
