Is this zone active directory integrated? If so, the records are stored in the active directory database itself, so they are replicated to all DCs.

Browse All TopicsMy DNS server only has information on 3 of my servers, one for it self and one for another server on my network and one for my back up DC.
It used to have entries for all the computers on my network . I am able to ping using computer names and IP addresses of computers on my network from the server. I am also able to ping from my computer to the servers and other computers on the network using computer names and IP addresses. nsloopup also works fine.
I don't see any errors (at least ones that I don't recognize) in the event view for the server.
I want to figure out what is going on before it becomes a problem.
I appreciate the help.

otter77: My DHCP configuration did not change. My computers are still pointing to the DNS server. I flushed the dns on my computer and I am still able to get successful pings on the network.
jar3817: My DNS is AD integrated.
adolphus850: I have checked the logs for my servers and my workstation and there are no error in regards to that. I have refreshed and no new error are coming. I cannot reboot at this time because this server is in production. If need be, I can reboot after hours.
ok - here's a random thought...
it sounds like your DNS is working properly but nothing is showing up in the MMC snap-in... try this on for size:
Are you sure your DNS MMC snap-in is pointed at DC or a replicating DNS server?
Point to the root-DNS in the snap-in and right-click and select "connect to DNS Server" and make sure you're picking one of your DC's.
ping a server and client with the -a switch. does the name resolve correctly?
when you go to forward lookup zones, are the servers reported under branch that starts with _msdcs?
When you go to forward lookup zones and look at your domain, do view > filter and make sure you do not have any filters set.

it should have entries for all the computers on your network... did your dhcp configuration change to where your computers are no longer pointing at your DC/DNS server for name resolution? It could be you're only getting successful pings because of cached DNS, NetBIOS, or because someone (?) changed your DNS server elsewhere.
