Many companies only allow HTTP (TCP 80) and HTTPS (TCP 443) going out of their networks. That means that while you'll be able to browse the internet as usual, pretty much everything else will not work.
As far as your local server goes, that is probably even more restricted. Depending on the kind of server it is, only the necessary services will be available. You can do an Nmap scan on the server to see just what kind of services it has running. I'm guessing that this is not a server you administer, so the best thing to is to just ask the person responsible about the details and not use Nmap.
