Were the Getting Started Tasks wizards used to configure the SBS 2008?

Check the bindings for both IPv4 and IPv6. The report indicates that they are not correct. Make sure IPv6 is enabled. If not, enable and reboot.

Run the Fix My Network Wizard under the Network tab to find anymore issues.

Download www.sbsbpa.com for SBS 2008, install, update, and run to find any further errors.

Use our configuration guide:

He has the IPV6 binding turned off. This was the first thing I noticed. Can this really be a problem if the network is not using IPV6 because I turn it off on all PCs thinking it is not beingt used yet...not on this network but on individual pcs. I am not sure if he used the wizards to set it up but I can check.  I have remote access to the server.

Yes. IPv6 seemingly has no point, but SBS 2008 uses it for internal communication structures and arbitrarily turning it off causes all kinds of havoc.

I ran the wizard. Here are the issues

1 Primary network adapter is disabled
2 The DNS server is not listening to the IP address of the primary netork adapter
(I think 1 and 2 are  the problem)
3 Router discovery services is not enabled
4 The Internet Domain Name is not configured
5 CA is not installed
6 VPN group is missing
7 Remote access policy is missing
8 Time Service is not synchronized
9 A Networking Component is not configured properly

I turned on the bind ing for IPv6 and rebooted. Also, Phillip...where in the report did it show you the binding was not working? I want to know for future reference.  Is there a way to make the Network Adapter I am using become the primary? He has 2 bit the second one is disabled. I did check it to be sure it was.  I am remote so I will lose connection if I change to the other adapter.   thanks a lot...joe

The Networking component that is not configured properly is ID3

How come I am seeing "Administrator" at the end of the report?

Make sure the forwarder setting is pointing to the _ISP's_ DNS server IPs, or OpenDNS's server IPs. The settings there look wrong too.

Is 192.168.0.1 the router? If it is, then the DNS IP in the NIC binding properties is pointing to the router instead of the server itself.

The only reference to the router should be the Gateway setting in IPv4 TCP/IP properties.

Ran the fixer and of couurse it re enabled the nic2 but the domain is still listed on nic1. Not sure how to get the nic1 to be seen as primary network adapter. I redisabled nic2 for now since I am remote. If I pull NIC2 out of server will it see nic1 as primary or is there a proceedure I can do to make it move to other adapter. I remember reading that SBS2008 does not use 2 adapters like SBS2003 did. Guess I learned this at a good time...on someone elses party :))

SBS 2008 requires 1 NIC only. Even when disabled, NIC2 may get some OS properties assigned to it so it is always best to disable the NIC in the server's BIOS, or remove it as you propose.

Make sure your backup is good before pulling or disabling as that may do the server in.

As soon as you enable IPv6 and point DNS to self your problems should resolve.

Once the changes are made, rerun the Fix My Network wizard and the SBS 2008 BPA as recommended earlier.

Will do the changes tommorow as you propose. I saw your Blueprints. I have Breselfords SBS 2003 Best Practices 1 and 2. Cut my SBS teeth on those books!!!! They are so dog eared now. I have set up so many practice SBS 2003 servers from the info from your site and those books.  I am waiting patiently on the ones for SBS2008. I hope you guys at SMB Nation will put all your books on the Kindle or make them Kindle possible. Have not been to your site in a while.  I will get the BluePrints asap. Did not know it was available. :)) Will update you tom when I pull the NIC

very many thanks...joe

spoke with guy I am helping and he want to wait for friday to pull it incase of issues. Will update then. What is the test that I run (without wizard) to see that the DNS server is not listening on the primary adapter? Want to UNDERSTAND this even when no "wizard" is telling me this, do you know anway other than the wizard??....thx..joe

Make sure all of the properties for NIC2 are unchecked.

Check DNS Manager for any alternate A records for your SBS pointing to the wrong IP and delete them.

Make sure the Scope Options in DHCP has the correct IP for DNS etc.

Ok it seems to have cleared up a lot of the errors, thanks. I did post a general question in the DNS section and found out a kb for how to turn off the DNS from listening on any NIC card in the server and it kept ne from having to pull the nic from the pc. Posting it here for anyone who may come along and need it  http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ee649191%28WS.10%29.aspx. Stll havign a few issues in the DNS test. Here is the lastest DNS test if you have any more ideas it would be great.   thx so much.
