mail.mydomain.com, I am gettign an error that it cant locate the server.
when I try to do a ping to mail.mydomain.com I am getting an error cant find host.

yes.. you will need to edit your 'mydomain.com' dns zone file and change the 'mail' record to point to the new IP address of your new mail server..
reload the name service and should then be able to ping it etc. .
