SBS 2011 is broken since accidental unchecking of IPv6, rechecking doesnt solve issue
Hello everyone,
I am having a very urgent issue with our Windows Small Business server 2011. Last night in troubleshooting a network issue i decided to uncheck IPv6 from the network connection. Then rebooted the server. When rebooting took forever at the applying computer settings then finally after 15-20 mintes it allows me to log in, But Exchange 2010 does not start, Netlogon service does not start and a number of others.
After searching online about this, i booted into safe mode with networking to reenable the IPv6 and reboot, but still slow to apply computer settings and still does not start the services.
The server has two NIC cards and tried switching over to the second NIC. First set the main nic to use a different IP than normal. So instead of 192.168.1.4 (original) i changed to 192.168.1.6, then disabled the nic. Then on the second one when i set it to the original IP, for some reason i get a message warning that NIC one is the same IP as this. Almost like it is caching settings from the other. Which makes me think its caching the IPv6 being unchecked.
Some more digging in the server and i noticed a strange thing happening with DNS, when i go into the DNS MMC it shows the local computer as some odd "WIN-xxxxxxx" as the root of the DNS server? Shouldnt this be showing our actual server name?

If you change anything to the network configuration or anything is broken, you should alwayd run the Fix My Network wizard. It will correct any network related errors like ip settings, but also DNS and DHCP.
You can find the wizard via the SBS console, go to Network choose the connectivity tab and you will find the wizard in the task pane on the right part of your console.

When i try to get to the Fix My Network button in the SBS console, i go to network, then go to connectivity, where it pauses for a while, then errors the SBS console "Windows SBS 2011 Standard Console has stopped working. Problem event CLR20r3 Console.exe system.directoryServices
Is there a method to circumvent the SBS console?

If the wizards fails there are some serious problems with your server, I would suggest first take a look a the logs created when you run a SBS wizard. They are stored in C:\program files\windows small business server\logs first take a look at the Fix My nework wizard log file fncw.log

Found the wizard and running now. Ill post results when i get them. It was in C:\program files\windows small business server\bin\FNCW.msc

So it came up with a number of issues regarding DHCP and DNS etc. But the really odd issue is that i believe there is something screwy with the name of this server. The name it has always been since day one is Luna, but ever since this problem arose, when i go into network and sharing center it shows win-s5194ekc9vj as "(This computer)" and in the DNS server it shows that name as the top level. Yet when i go to properties of my computer it shows up as luna.

So i got it working finally. I ended up going into the registry and replacing all of the odd computer names with the correct name. Rebooted and it fixed it.
