The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Microsoft Word Will only open in Safe Mode.

Hi guys:

I use Word a lot and would like to correct this error because it pops up everytime I open a Word document.  When I click on a Word document icon, the program goes through the errors listed below and opens in the Safe Mode.  The document I clicked on is ignored, so I have to go to File Open and find it to bring it in.  It's a pain in the neck.  Here is my overview.

I recently installed Windows XP Pro on my computer.  Every aspect of the OS is fine.  I then loaded up my MS Office 2002 or 2003.  All the programs other than Word are working fine.  Here's what Word is doing:

When I open it, it begins to open normally and then it says:

Microsoft Word has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

The information you were working on might be lost.  Microsoft Word can try to recover it for you.

...   Recover my work and restart word.  ( The 3 dots represent a box you can put a check mark in.  It only allows me to leave a check mark in it to have Word then open in Safe Mode. )

If I remove the check mark I get the error:

Word failed to start correctly last time.  Starting Word in Safe Mode will help you correct or isolate a start up problem in order to successfully start the program.  Some fuctionality may be disabled in this mode.  Do you want to start in Safe Mode.

                                                                Yes or No

If I say, "No" the first error I typed above comes up again.

I did try unistalling MS Office entirely and reloading it.  It still gives me the same errors.
I noticed this problem after I did an import of my e-mail addresses and messages to Outlook from Outlook Express.  I don't think this had anything to do with the MS Word errors but thought it worth mentioning.

Thanks for your help,

John
