Sending character through Serial port C#

I need to send some character data through a serial port in my C# program. I can get the port to open and close, but I'm having difficulty figuring out what data I need to send through it and how to send it.

My documentation says I need to transmit a BEL character to the port. It also gives a table that lists:
ACSII character = BEL
control character = <ctrl><G>
Dec. Num = 7
Hex Num = 7
Number of Pulse Edges = 2.

When a send the command from a DOS prompt I do ECHO ^G>COM1 and it works perfectly. I need to send the same through my C# program.

Here is the code I have. I have tried writing "7" and "BEL" and it doesn't work.
