SQLExpress available over internet - cannot connect to server

Hi,

I have setup my home computer to run SQL Express 2005 and host a public DB. (wks running windows xp pro). I can connect to the db from mgment studio express from the machine, and also from another machine within the local network. The problem is connecting to it over the internet.

I have static ip and i have configured several port forwards on my router (DLINK DSL-G604T) for other apps (ie. RDP for remote access, bittorrents). I have setup the ports the same way for SQL (1433) but this does not appear to work. I cannot telnet to port 1433 or connect via mgment studio once outside the local network.

To investigate further, i setup data capture applications at each end (ethereal) and was able to see SYN/ACK messages at the server end and the external workstaiton end to signify there is a TCP connection, but I am still not sure if this means the routing is setup correctly.

I have turned firewalls off at each end and added filters to the router config.

Seem to have checked everything, but still wont work... any thoughts much appreciated...
