XP computer cannot get DHCP settings after installing Service Pack 2

Asked by webaddo in TCP/IP, Internet Protocols

Tags: Microsoft, Windows XP Pro

I just installed Service Pack 2 on an XP Pro computer.  After installation, the computer can no longer get TCP/IP settings through DHCP or even manual assignment.  If it is set to DHCP, it never pulls an IP from the network (gets the default 169 number).  If i manually assign an IP, it still wont go on the network or Internet.  I tried uninstalling XP; same issue.  I even did a repair of the OS; same issue.  All other computers work fine, so it is not the DHCP server.  I tried switching to a known working port and cable; same issue.  I put in a brand new NIC card; same issue with the new card.  I tried a system restore to an earlier date and everytime it says the restore failed.
Is there any way to fix this without having to reinstall the entire OS?Start Free Trial
