The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. Ping requests only responds for a few seconds

I have several XP SP2 machines at my office with IP's within the 192.168.1.x range, using a 255.255.255.0 subnet. Of course they can reach my domain controller on 192.168.1.180 just fine, but they can also reach my VoIP server on 192.168.175.5.

I have added a new XP SP2 machine, configured the same as the other 20 machines I have. It can reach my domain controller on 192.168.1.180 just fine, but is unable to reach my VoIP server on 192.168.175.5.

The new machine is part of the Users group on the domain controller, just the same as all of the others.

I've tried swapping IP addresses, as well as access ports with other machines on the network, but to no avail.

I've tried re-installing XP as well, to no avail.

The only really odd thing I've noticed is that if I re-boot the new machine and change the NIC's subnet mask to 255.255.0.0, I am able to ping the VoIP server on 192.168.175.5 for about 10 seconds, then it quits responding to further ping requests.

Thanks in advance for any insight provided. I'm totally stumped...

BTW, I'm running SBS 2003 as my domain controller with GPO enabled, if that's of any interest.Start Free Trial
