The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

TCP/IP Settings for Network Card

Asked by dtsirlis in MS Forefront-ISA, Optical Networking, TCP/IP

Hello everybody,

We recently installed a fiber optic line in addition to our ADSL. I wanted to play around with Microsofts new Forefront TMG so I set up a VM using Hyper-V.

The VM is running Windows Server 2008 x64.

I am pretty new to the area of network configuration and am confused as far as what to do to gain access to the internet through the new router provided to us with the fiber optic line.

First of all, in this VM I am supposed to set up two network connections i.e. internal, external. But before I get to that (forefront configuration) I want to access the internet first using one network connection i.e. external, and after that set up forefront.

First question. Our provider gave us an ip range (external) 62.xxx.xxx.225-254 which is 29 (?) dont they come in 16 or 32?

Second question. On to the IP settings of the network card I want to set up. The IP address of the router is 62.xxx.xxx.224. They told me that as a gateway I should use 192.168.0.240.

How would I proceed to set up the card, with subnet masks and additional IP's in order to get access outside the network?

Our internal network has the form of 192.168.1.xxx
