The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not?   • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. Linksys Wireless Router PPTP VPN Won't Connect

I am unable to establish a PPTP VPN connection into my home network.  I have a Linksys BEFW11S4 wireless router with the latest firmware, ver. 1.50.14, that sits behind my cable modem.  I have a Windows 2000 Pro laptop that is set up to receive incoming connections.  Internet connectivity is working fine.  The laptop is receiving a dynamic ip lease of 192.168.1.100.  PPTP passthrough is enabled on the router and I have TCP port 1723 forwarding to my laptop's internal ip address.  When I try to connect to it remotely, the "Connecting to xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx" screen just sits there and then I get an "Error 800: Unable to establish VPN Connection." message once it times out.  I've found where several people on different forums had this same problem, particularly with Linksys routers.  Any thoughts?
