The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Using Linksys WAP54G as Wireless Repeater

Asked by alausted in Miscellaneous Networking, Networking Hardware, Operating System Specific Networking

Tags: repeater, wap54g, linksys, wireless, using

Equipment:
WRT54G v5 firmware 1.00.2
WAP54G v3 firmware 3.04

Both equipment using same SSID (ie. myNetwork)
Both equipment using same channel (11)
Both equipment using same WEP encryption

Plug in WAP54G next to my laptop.  After a bit of time, my laptop seems to roll over to the WAP54G.
I determine this because of a much stronger signal (100%) verses what I would normally get.  In addition, I can
ping the WAP54G (192.168.1.245) and cannot ping the WRT54G (192.168.1.1)

At this point I'm not able to browse to the internet.  I'm stuck.  Based on Linksys documentation it seems I've followed the procedure.  What am I missing?

This is the procedure I followed from Linksys:
http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=231&p_created=1084206995&p_sid=QqE-fLWh&p_lva=&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9zb3J0X2J5PSZwX2dyaWRzb3J0PSZwX3Jvd19jbnQ9NTEmcF9wcm9kcz0wJnBfY2F0cz0mcF9wdj0mcF9jdj0mcF9zZWFyY2hfdHlwZT1hbnN3ZXJzLnNlYXJjaF9ubCZwX3NjZl9sYW5nPTEmcF9wYWdlPTEmcF9zZWFyY2hfdGV4dD1yZXBlYXRlcg**&p_li=&p_topview=1

I know my way around but am not a networking genious.  Maybe I'm missing something.  If you are able to determine where I'm going wrong I'll give 250 points.  If you're able to get it working as I expect it to, I'll bump it up to 500 points.
