The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Netopia R910 to R910 IPSec VPN Tunnel

Asked by aaronjwood in IPSec Security Protocol, Network Routers, Virtual Private Networking (VPN)

Tags: , ,

Hello,

I have two Netopia R910 routers on different subnets miles apart that I am attempting to establish an IPSec VPN tunnel accross. The main goal is to have a always-on VPN tunnel to do things such as remote boot via PXE and DHCP relay as well as remote desktop connections accross the subnets.

Router A is at our corporate office behind a bridged ADSL modem with a single static public IP. The network structure of the corporate office is 10.0.1.X and we have a W2003 SBS on the netowrk acting as the DHCP server handing out IPs in the range of 10.0.1.100 to 10.0.1.200. The LAN address of router A is 10.0.1.254 and it is connected the the rest of the office LAN via a crossover cable to the corporate switch (all office computer can make it to the internet using Router A as their gateway, so this is all working fine).

Router B is at my home behind a cable modem that DOES NOT have a static IP (this is for testing only, once I can get the tunnel working I will implement this at our retail location subnets). Router B acts as the DHCP server at my home serving IPs in the range of 10.0.50.100 to 10.0.50.200 and is located at 10.0.50.1 on the network.

I followed the instructions at http://www.netopia.com/support/hardware/technotes/NQG_053.html to set up the tunnel and got was able to get both a Phase 1 and Phase 2 tunnel authentication completion. I am able to ping Router B's IP (10.0.50.1) from Router A as well as my PC (connected to Router B's LAN HUB) at 10.0.50.100. I can also ping Router A's IP from Router B, but CANNOT ping any of the other computers on the 10.0.1.X subnet. Any ideas?

I would like to be able to ping all computer on the 10.0.1.X subnet from the 10.0.50.X subnet as well as remote pc to any computers in the office from home.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Regards,
