what is what is TCP TimeStamp

our auditor wants us to disable TCP TimeStamp. I have search through google and dont understand what people are trying explain.

in lay man term, can someone tell me what is TCP TimeStamp?  is it needed? how does it affect the application(HP OVO, BMC remedy software) running on our unix box?

Erm... Then I'd suggest you start reading up on the TCP protocol to understand what each packet of TCP traffic carries accross the internet. It carries a whole lot of information, not just the data you want to send or receive.
