Will a Digium FXO card work with a North American PBX trunk line

I am trying to build a new asterisk server for our new york office - I am from the UK.

The problem i am having is figuring out what the correct interface card to use.

I am not sure what i should be asking "Verizon" what type of connection to use i.e. ISDN or a pbx trunk or just get a few anologue ports installed and use them.

I understand that protocols and technologies are different over the pond.

My main question is will a Digium 4 port FXO card work in the states when using a pbx trunk.
How do people connect their Asterisk to a telco in the states?
