Question

Caller ID for Cisco call manager 4.1 has changed to using the pots lines

Asked by: fina27

Out of no where our outgoing calls are showing up as a different number, looks like our POTS lines numbers.

I havent changed anything and the ISP says its nothign to do with them. I don't see anything like "external caller ID" options within the GUI call manager. Can someone guide me to the right place for this?

Sounds like your PRI died.  Do a "show isdn status" at the exec prompt on your router.  My guess is that the PRI is down and your router is sending the calls out your POTS lines.

To watch how your calls are going out, you can do "show voice call status" to see what ports are being used by calls.  Do one before you call out, then right after.

by: fina27Posted on 2008-09-17 at 11:11:30ID: 22501815

Here's the pri output. Looks active. I'm not really sure what to look for with the show voice call status.

Global ISDN Switchtype = primary-ni
ISDN Serial0/0/0:23 interface
        dsl 0, interface ISDN Switchtype = primary-ni
    Layer 1 Status:
        ACTIVE
    Layer 2 Status:
        TEI = 0, Ces = 1, SAPI = 0, State = MULTIPLE_FRAME_ESTABLISHED
    Layer 3 Status:
        1 Active Layer 3 Call(s)
        CCB:callid=400E, sapi=0, ces=0, B-chan=1, calltype=VOICE
    Active dsl 0 CCBs = 1
    The Free Channel Mask:  0x807FFFFE
    Number of L2 Discards = 0, L2 Session ID = 107
Total Allocated ISDN CCBs = 1

Ok I think I might know what you mean. Here is some of the output from the show voice call status. Looks like some are going over POTS and some PRI?

CallID          CID     ccVdb           Port

0xEF9C     295A 0x470E75A4 50/0/51.0
0xEF9D     295A 0x469AC0A8 0/1/1
0xEFB4     116A 0x46DD1B60 0/0/0:23.1
0xEFB5     116A 0x473BF574 50/0/66.0

by: JasonTracyPosted on 2008-09-17 at 11:35:32ID: 22502107

Yup.  So, PRI is up.  My guess is that we have a dial plan issue.

My next guess is that Call Manager is sending them this way.  Check your route group in CCM and make sure the PRI line is at the top, and "top down" is the selected method.

by: fina27Posted on 2008-09-17 at 11:36:02ID: 22502117

I saw this comment below in another thread in experts-exchange.com; however, I dont see any of those options in the call manager. Am I going to the wrong URL or something?

-There are several ways to change the Calling Line ID information. If the main office is displayed for alle DN's, you have to modify also the "External Phone Number Mask" and the "Caller ID DN" in de Gateway information. In addition the "Route Pattern" have to be modified to mark the tick-box "Use Calling Partys External Phone Nummer Mask"  with the mainnumber and wildcards for the digits of the numberplan, for instance 0302906xxx in case of a 4 digits numberingplan.

by: fina27Posted on 2008-09-17 at 11:37:15ID: 22502130

Jasontracy, I think thats what I'm missing here. I don't know where "route group" is.

by: JasonTracyPosted on 2008-09-17 at 11:40:39ID: 22502174

From CCMAdmin, go to Route Plan > Route/Hunt > Route Group.  Top-left side of the menu bar.

Try this link: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucm/admin/4_1_3/ccmcfg/b03rtgrp.html

by: fina27Posted on 2008-09-17 at 11:44:56ID: 22502231

Okay I think I'm missing something big because thats no where to be found.

I go to http://<ip address>/telephone_service.html

This is the only GUI i know of. Is that the CCMAdmin? It says Cisco Call Manager Express at the top.

Forgive me as I'm used to Avaya systems.

by: JasonTracyPosted on 2008-09-17 at 12:00:19ID: 22502380

Ok, you don't have Call Manager 4.1, you have CME.  Totally different.

Looks like the prefrences are out of order.  Try this from config:

dial-peer voice 2 pots
 preference 20
dial-peer voice 1 pots
 preference 2

If that works, adjust the others so that the PRI stays at 2 and the others are used in the order you want.

by: fina27Posted on 2008-09-17 at 12:05:29ID: 22502427

Oh sorry. I knew something obvious was wrong.

Good catch. I'll try that during off hours tonight and we'll see. If that works, I have no clue how that preference got changed.....

by: fina27Posted on 2008-09-17 at 12:11:04ID: 22502481

I'm confused on your last sentence....

If I make this change, why wouldn't the PRI stay at 2? Also, what difference does it make for the preference for the order of the pots lines?

by: JasonTracyPosted on 2008-09-17 at 12:18:03ID: 22502555

The PRI would stay at 2.  You would just want to decide what order the CME "grabs" the other lines in the event your PRI is unavailable.  With my command, that line will be last.

by: fina27Posted on 2008-09-21 at 13:14:18ID: 22535933

thanks Jason! that worked.
